Lower end St George
Boxwood and ebony in original slide lid mahogany box. King = 84 mm, pawn 32 mm.

This style is known as the St George pattern, possibly after the name of the chess club where they were used in the 19th C. These fine sets can be bought very cheaply. They were still being made by Jaques in the 1920s.

The knights look machine carved, with straight cuts, and rather crude.
